Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation in Semmancheri, OMR
Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at Astra
Recovery is not something that happens after treatment - it is part of it. A well-performed knee replacement with poor rehabilitation produces a worse result than an ordinary one with good rehabilitation. Astra's physiotherapy service works alongside our orthopaedic, neurology, surgical, obstetric and respiratory teams. We treat back and neck pain, joint problems, sports injuries, recovery after surgery or fracture, neurological rehabilitation after stroke and antenatal and postnatal recovery.

Treatments & Procedures
Our specialized physiotherapy programs offer targeted physical rehabilitation and pain management techniques to restore mobility and function. We design customized therapeutic exercise regimens to support accelerated recovery from injuries, surgeries and chronic conditions.
-
Assessment first
Every programme begins with a full assessment of movement, strength, joint range, posture and function, alongside your consultant's diagnosis and imaging.
-
Exercise therapy
The core of physiotherapy. Progressive, specific exercises to restore strength, mobility, balance and endurance.
-
Manual therapy
Hands-on mobilisation, soft-tissue work and stretching to reduce pain and restore movement, used to enable exercise rather than to replace it.
-
Pain-relief modalities
Ultrasound therapy, TENS, heat and cold and traction where appropriate - useful adjuncts, not treatments in themselves.
-
Gait and balance training
Retraining walking after surgery, fracture or stroke, including appropriate use of walking aids.
-
Home exercise programme
You leave with clear written exercises. What you do between sessions matters more than what happens during them.
What to Expect From Physiotherapy
Your first session lasts around 45 minutes to an hour, covering assessment, explanation, initial treatment and your home exercise programme. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring any X-rays, MRI reports or discharge summaries.
How many sessions? Some acute problems settle in three or four sessions; post-surgical rehabilitation and neurological recovery run for weeks or months. Your physiotherapist will give an honest estimate at the first visit.
The most common reason physiotherapy \"doesn't work\" is that it stopped too early or that home exercises weren't done. Two sessions is not a fair trial of an eight-week problem.
Related: orthopaedic and joint conditions, stroke and neurological conditions, postnatal recovery and COPD and respiratory conditions.
